In May 2023, neither of us knew how greatly our lives would change when we met for lunch. As the days turned into weeks, and the weeks into months, we continued to grow closer and spend more time with each other.

Ever one to surprise others, Mark asked Carly her ring size in November, with plans to propose after Christmas. In January of 2024, Mark had the opportunity to meet Carly's family. A week later, while on a walk on a trail behind Carly's apartment, we reached a bridge Carly liked to use as a turn around point. Upon reaching the bridge, we watched a couple ducks swimming, and as Carly prepared to turn around, Mark got down on one knee.

After returning to Carly's apartment, we called and Facetimed our families to share the great news!

Carly's Story

Mark and I started talking through a dating app. Our conversation started like many others do, with the basics. "What do you do for work? Where do you live?" etc., but it didn't take long to realize that our values aligned. We texted a lot for the first few days and both wanted to meet in person. I asked to talk on the phone a few times as well as I was nervous to meet someone without talking on the phone first! Five days later we met up for lunch in Lawrence. I felt like our first date would be the first of many! I'm happy to say that feeling was right. Over the past year Mark has shown me again and again that he is patient, kind, and puts others, especially his loved ones, before himself. I'm thankful to have found someone who treats me with respect, encourages my relationships with friends and family, apologizes when he is wrong, loves God, and who makes me laugh!

I am blessed that Carly came into my life at just the right time, to support me through a career change and the loss of a grandparent. I count my blessings daily knowing I have such an exciting future to look forward to with Carly by my side. Countless talks, games, meals, shows, and adventures shared together as we encourage one another to grow in our faith and character.
